🌍 Hand- / footprint

Making an impact together: Acting instead of just talking.

With Plastic Fischer, your company becomes part of the solution to plastic pollution - with a sustainable handprint and minimal footprint.

What does hand & footprint mean?

The sustainability debate is no longer just about reducing emissions (🦶footprint), but also about actively contributing to a positive impact (✋handprint).we help companies to combine both aspects - through sensible measures that specifically stop environmental pollution.

  • Reduce footprint through CO₂ compensation, waste avoidance
  • Increasing our handprint, e.g. by supporting projects such as Plastic Fischer, which actively remove plastic waste from rivers

🦶 The ecological footprint

Definition

The footprint describes the negative impact that a person, company or product has on the environment - specifically: the consumption of natural resources and the emission of greenhouse gases.

Examples of a footprint:

  • CO₂ emissions from travelling, production or energy consumption
  • Waste production
  • Water consumption
  • Surface sealing

Goal in sustainability management:

Reducing the footprint by increasing efficiency, avoidance and offsetting - classic example: CO₂-neutral operations.

✋ The ecological handprint

Definition

The handprint describes the positive contribution you make to solving global challenges beyond your own behaviour - in other words: how you actively do good.

The term was developed by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) to expand the narrative from renunciation to active impact.

Examples of a handprint:

  • Inspiring others to act more sustainably
  • Introduce technologies or processes that conserve resources
  • Support environmental protection projects financially or with personnel
  • Create structures that have a long-term impact (e.g. cleanups, educational programmes)

Goal in sustainability management:

Increase your own handprint to not only cause ‘less harm’, but to do ‘more good’.

Application in the company

HR & CSR managers can use the handprint for e.g:

  • Employer branding: Employees want to be part of a meaningful movement.
  • Compensation measures with storytelling: instead of just planting trees, for example, visible rubbish is collected from rivers.
  • Team events with impact: employees become co-creators of change.
